What Are the Best Roku Sticks?
Times are getting tough and every penny matters. Cutting cable out entirely is a growing trend as customers have become tired of relentless rate increases for channels that they don’t even watch, for set top boxes that they must have to view their service at $10 a month or greater. With an average bill of $107 after all service fees and equipment it’s no wonder why people are flocking to streaming choices at only a fraction of the cost. This is why Roku sticks have surged in popularity in recent years as being one of the best.
The great thing is that it’s never been easier to cut the cord today! You don’t have to be tech savvy anymore to cut the cord. All that you need is a good broadband connection and one of the many popular streaming devices that are out today. They simply plug into your TV’s HDMI port and you’re basically ready to go within minutes out of the box. Watch all of your favorites, on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and hundreds more options.
We recommend Roku’s lineup of streaming devices. They’re very well designed and widely supported for all streaming services. As a very large bonus, they’ve largely been unimpacted by any feuds between Google and Amazon as they have selectively restricted their content on each others respective streaming devices in the past. Roku devices have remained untouched (so far)! Check out the best Roku sticks that are on the market today.
Roku Express HD Streaming Media Player 2019
If you’re dipping your toes in the water and have a 1080p HD or less TV then you can’t go wrong with their basic Roku Express HD Streaming Media Player 2019. It’s their most cost effective option and comes with the device itself, an infrared remote, USB power cord and an HDMI cord. Requires a WiFi connection (no wired Ethernet)
What Buyers Like
People love how affordable this item is and how it gives an easy introduction into the cord cutting world. While it may not have the advanced hardware features of the premium models, it still gets the same exact channels and apps.
What Buyers Don’t Like
One minor annoyance to this device is the fact that the remote control doesn’t have a power button for the TV as the others do. This requires the need to keep the TV’s remote nearby to shut it on and off, so it won’t help you reduce the number of remotes. Also, the remote uses Infrared and not wireless signals, so if you’re tucked in under the covers and want to change the channel, you’ll have to lift the remote out from under the blankets and point it directly at the TV.
Roku Streaming Stick+ | HD/4K/HDR Streaming Device with Long-range Wireless and Voice Remote with TV Controls (updated for 2019)
Got a fancy 4k television and want to get the most of it without breaking the bank? We don’t blame you, that’s why they have the Roku Streaming Stick+ which supports full 4k HDR resolution for just slightly more of the cost than the 1080p version. It also features a truly wireless (it should work while under the covers, unlike infrared) remote that can be voice controlled as well. Requires as WiFi connection (no wired Ethernet)
What Buyers Like
The Roku remote has the ability to power the TV on and off along with the device, so this reduces the number of controllers needed. Handles 4K content smoothly.
What Buyers Don’t Like
Some people have been scammed by buying Roku sticks from unreputable sellers on Amazon that claim they need to pay $70 in order to use their newly purchased device. Roku NEVER charges any fee for activation/support, so when you purchase this device, please make sure it is shipped and sold by Amazon.com as the seller and not a 3rd party merchant. Much like the other remote, it’s also infrared based.
Roku Ultra | Streaming Media Player 4K/HD/HDR with Premium JBL Headphones 2019
Want the best of the best? Then you need the Roku Ultra, featuring Premium JBL Headphones. Not only will this play your 4k content with ease but you can also play content off a USB drive or MicroSD card. It’s even compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant! Unlike the previous entries, this supports both WiFi and Ethernet wired connection.
What Buyers Like
Highly responsive due to it having the most powerful CPU of the lineup. Dolby Atmos audio gives it a more theatrical experience for those with the setup that can make the most of it.
What Buyers Don’t Like
Surprisingly, this device does not come with the HDMI cable itself, so you’ll have to buy your own if you want one. Also the premium JBL headphones are apparently not as great as you may think for something with premium branding.
